

Celestino Giusto "Tino" Cobau, 87, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Heritage Healthcare in Springfield, IL. He was born April 6, 1927 in Santa Croce, Trieste, Italy, to Giusto and Giovanna (Sulchich) Cobau. He married Gloria Ann Santini on September 19, 1950 in Patterson, New Jersey and became a U.S. citizen on October 28, 1955. Tino and Gloria were married for 64 years. Tino was employed as a chef at the St. Nicholas Hotel for 22 years, until its closure, and then retired from the State of Illinois after 23 years. Tino enjoyed cooking, gardening, wine-making, listening to Italian music and speaking Italian. Above all, he loved and enjoyed his family. He is survived by his wife, Gloria A. Cobau; two sons, Edward (Becky) of Springfield and Gino (Marcia) of Pepperell, MA; three daughters, Joanne (John) Paul, Susan (Don) McCarthy and Marie (Joe) Eck, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Rosemarie (Sam), Lauren, David, Ashley, Lisa (Bradley), John, and Addison; three great-grandsons, Nicholas, Braeden and Owen; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 Sangamon Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
