

He was born on December 3, 1944, in Vandalia, the son of John and Bessie (Arthur) Armstrong. Charles married Gladys M. “Nickie” Blankenship on May 28, 1982, in Jacksonville, IL.
Charlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He went on to work as a food supervisor for the Department of Corrections. Charlie eagerly shared the gospel and was a member of Williamsville Christian Church as well as a lifelong member at the VFW Post 10302. Charlie enjoyed reading his bible, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sue Blankenship and Mary “Jackie” Meyer; and brother, John Lawrence Armstrong.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Nickie Armstrong of Sherman; children, William “Billy” Armstrong of Florida, Derek (Theresa) Rector of San Diego, CA, April Armstrong of Mt. Sterling, David Lee (Brandy) Shaw of Springfield, Mark T. Armstrong of Riverton, Tracy (Trent) Peterman of Sherman, and Nathan (Autumn) Armstrong of Chatham; mother of two grandchildren, Eden Armstrong of Sherman; sister, Metta Ellen Burgoyne; brothers, Mike Armstrong, Greg (Tila) Armstrong, Jim (Carol) Armstrong, and Dennis Armstrong; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, requiring face coverings.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, with Rev. Dave Beals officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, requiring face coverings.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
