Bill was born on April 12, 1944, in Parkersburg, WV, the son of Charles W. Templeton, Sr. and Ethel Pew Templeton. He married Carolyn McCloy on March 19, 1965, in Vienna, WV.
Bill was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and attended Glendale College. He worked at the American Viscose Plant in WV and Pennwalt Corporation in Calvert City, KY. Later, he and Carolyn moved to IL, where Bill worked construction, building homes. He also helped with two of his favorite projects, South Side Christian Church and West Side Christian Church expansions. He retired at the age of 62. He and Carolyn danced together and were on bowling and shuffleboard leagues in their younger years. The last few years he helped Carolyn cut out quilt squares, admiring her creativity and skill. He enjoyed baking bread, cooking and eating. While not a veteran, Bill spent time with friends at the Chatham VFW.
Any time the University of Kentucky was playing basketball, you would likely find him watching the Wildcats with his wife. There was a good chance at half-time or right after the game, he would talk about the game with son, Chuck. He often shared life stories with Lisa when she took him to his doctor appointments. He adored his son-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Templeton of Chatham; one son, Charles “Chuck” Templeton, III of Calvert City, KY; one daughter, Lisa (husband, Michael) Rigoni of Springfield; three grandchildren, Megan Rigoni (husband, Brian) McCormic of Springfield, Zachary Rigoni of Springfield, and Kristian Rigoni (husband, Collin) Smith of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Isla, Rocco, and Violet; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
He loved his family dearly and continued to tell Lisa: “I did three things really well…I married your mother and we had you and your brother.” That love of family and his love for Jesus Christ and his knowing that they’d be together again, gave him peace as he took his last breath.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
