Charlotte M. Phelps

Charlotte M. Phelps, 85, of Springfield, died at 4:00 p.m. on September 2, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on April 13, 1921 in Leroy, the daughter of Wilbur Jennings and Essie Mae Vanatta Strange. She married Carter Phelps; he preceded her in death. She graduated from Leroy High School in Leroy, IL and then attended Illinois State University at Normal, IL. She retired in 1989 after working in the clerical department of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office for twenty-three years. She also previously owned several small taverns and small hotels in the Springfield area. Her family was her whole life and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept her very busy. She is survived by one son: Dennis R. Rector of Springfield; one daughter: Susan Bileck also of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Lisa, Teresa, Jason and Nathan Bileck, Christopher Ryan and Stephan Rector, Sean McMeen and Janice French; seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Betty Erio of Springfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
