Cheryl Ann Kates

Cheryl Ann Kates, 59, of Springfield, died at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her home. Cheryl was born April 22, 1955 in Springfield, the daughter of James and Mary Elizabeth VonDeBur Kates. Cheryl was employed for more than 40 years as a Marketing Support Specialist for AT&T. She loved her family and doted on her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerome "Jerry" Kates. She is survived by her parents, James and Mary Kates of Rochester; siblings, Jim (wife, Nancy) Kates of Rochester, Steve (wife, Kelly) Kates of Springfield, Chris (wife, Claudia) Kates of Winston-Salem, NC, Matt (wife, Jan) Kates of Wheaton, Donna (husband, George) Wanless of Springfield, Mary Beth (husband, Roger) McClintock, and Rachel (husband, Michael) Copp, both of Rochester; fifteen nieces and nephews; and six great- nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at St. Jude Church, 633 S. Walnut St., Rochester with Rev. R. Dean Probst, celebrant. Private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
