

Cilla Sluga 63, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 peacefully at her home. She was born on June 23, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Leon Schluge and Emily Zank Schluge.
She is survived by her husband Michael Meiselman and by her by four daughters: Jen Lumbert of Humbolt, CA, Christine (Campanion George Lancaster) Seitz of Springfield, IL, Deborah (husband Ben) Garcia of Chicago, IL, and Susan Seitz of Springfield, IL; one granddaughter, Sabine May Tonstad, her mother Emily Schluge of Stroud, OK, one sister, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Leon. Cilla also leaves behind her beloved black lab “Lucy”.
Cilla’s first life was spent as a nurse until she became involved in the Disability Rights Movement, leading to her role as the Director of Training at the Illinois Assistive Technology Project. She was a rabble rouser and agitator who advocated on behalf of oppressed and exploited people. Cilla was the founder of the Springfield Area Disability Activists as well as a member of the Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities of Illinois (CCDI) and Occupy Springfield.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Illinois Network of Centers For Independent Living (INCIL) offices located on the 5th floor of the Myers Building, 1 West Old State Capitol Plaza.
