Clayton’s greatest joy in life was being a father to his beloved son, Ocean Marley Hayes. They were more than father and son—they were best friends. Ocean meant everything to Clayton, and he found happiness in imagining the future they would build and the memories they would make.
A passionate hockey fan, Clayton’s love for the game was matched only by his loyalty to his family and friends. He carried a deep sense of pride in being part of four generations of military service, honoring those who came before him while setting an example of strength and commitment.
Clayton will be remembered for his charisma, his infectious smile, and his ability to light up every room he entered. Friends and family alike describe him as an amazing friend who treated everyone with kindness. He had a gift for lifting others up, refusing to let anyone around him stay down or upset—always bringing humor, warmth, and joy wherever he went.
Though Clayton’s life ended far too soon, his spirit will continue to live on in the laughter he sparked, the love he gave, and the memories he created with those he held dear. He leaves behind a circle of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Pamella Kovaleff Coppa; son Ocean Marley; his parents Kevin (Kristen) Hayes and Shauna Hayes; sisters Kalee (Alan) Johnstone, Kori (Bohlt) Hamrick, and Sydnie Hayes; nephew Lorenzo Johnstone; niece Hadlee Johnstone; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Clayton is preceded in death by his daughter Autumn Lee Hayes; grandparents Lonny Walsh, Marsha Walsh, and Barbra Hayes; great-grandparents Clarence Hayes, Opal Dilley, and Virginia Evans.
There will be a visitation on Monday September 29th from 2:00-3:30 pm with a service to follow at Bisch & Son Funeral Home located at 505 East Allen Street Springfield, IL. Immediately following, a celebration of life will take place at Jane Hay Sales and Staging located at 2937 West White Oaks Drive Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a trust for Ocean Marley Hayes. They can be sent to the Venmo account @Ocean-Hayes.
