

Curtis L. Johnson, 85, of Springfield, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006 at St. John's Hospital. Curtis was born July 19, 1920 in Elsberry, MO the son of Curt and Neta Bailey Johnson. He married Bertha Mae Hale in 1939; she preceded him in death in 1985. Curtis married Barbara Thomas Madison on May 27, 2000 in Springfield. Mr. Johnson was employed as a foreman for Central Iron and Metal Co. for 47 years, retiring in 1985. He attended Union Baptist Church and was a member of Local Teamsters Midwest. Curtis was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed bowling and all sports. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Pamela Johnson; four brothers: Gilmore, Jimmy, Howard and Russell Johnson; and three sisters: Ruth Clayton, Lucille Watts and Ardella Harvey. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Madison Johnson of Springfield; four daughters: Delores (husband, Roger) Wilson of Springfield, Shirley (husband, John) Timms of Springfield, Linda (husband, Ronald) Madison of Chicago and Rhonda (husband, Kenneth) Yokem of Springfield; two stepsons: Clinton Madison of Springfield and Carl (wife, Mia) Madison of Canton, OH; two stepdaughters: Gloria Jordan of Springfield and Lillian Madison of Dallas, TX; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one brother: Elmer “Sonny” (wife, Mattie) Johnson of Springfield and two sisters: Mary Johnson and Clarine Douglas both of Springfield. Family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe, Springfield, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. T. Ray McJunkins officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1405 E. Monroe, Springfield, IL 62703. The family of Curtis L. Johnson is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
