She was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, January 16, 1957 the daughter of William and Marilyn Buss Zabel. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and then graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975. Cindy went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Concordia University, St. Paul, MN graduating in 1979.
Cindy received a call to serve on the teaching staff of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and School and would serve there for many years. On July 18, 1987, Cindy married David E. Mannchen in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and he survives.
She is also survived by her two sons; Christopher and Michael, both of Springfield, her mother, Marilyn Zabel, her brother Rick Zabel both of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, two nephews and a niece. Her father, grandparents and an uncle preceded her in death.
As a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Cindy’s service extended beyond her classroom. She served on the Board of Christian Education and the Board of Fellowship at the church and also as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 20 at Our Savior’s. Cindy resigned her full time position on the faculty, however, because of her love for children and teaching continued as a substitute teacher for both Our Savior’s and Springfield School Dist. 186. She loved to travel and enjoyed listening to music. Above all, Cindy was very proud of her family and found great joy in their activities and accomplishments. Her proudest moments were when her son Christopher received the Volunteer Recognition Award from the Henson Robinson Zoo and her son Michael achieving his Eagle Scout. She will be missed by all who knew her.
