

Dale E. Ruff, 83, of Springfield, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Dale was born December 7, 1920 in Straasburg, IL the son of Nelson and Augusta Rankin Ruff. He married Gloria Jean Reilly January 17, 1948 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield Mr. Ruff was a graduate of Feitschans High School. He was a veteran of the Army serving WWII and receiving a Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, five Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and a Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as a machinist for Sasco for 40 years retiring in 1982. He enjoyed golfing and achieved a hole in one, enjoyed bowling and was an avid Cubs Fan. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Gloria of Springfield; two sons: Bob (Fiancé, Kim Filson) Ruff of Springfield, Bill (wife, Sue) Ruff of Springfield; four grandchildren: Katie and Matt Ruff of Springfield, Brandy and Justin Filson of Springfield; one sister: Ruth Potter of Anaheim, CA and several nieces, nephew and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Memorial services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
