
Damon John Sholtis, 76, of Springfield died at 1:50 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at St. John’s Hospital ER. Damon was born June 22, 1927 in Virden, IL, son of Joseph Andrew and Anna Mehall Sholtis. He married Judith M. Yuskus on July 18, 1959 in Springfield. Mr. Sholtis had been employed at Fiat Allis for 38 years in the tool stores department, retiring in 1983. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Bairoko. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, UAW Local 1027 Retirees Club and lifetime member of VFW Post 755. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy M. of Springfield, daughter: Denise M. (husband, Donald) Craven and son: Joseph A. (wife, Kelly Sullivan) Sholtis both of Springfield, five grandchildren: Joseph Arlie and David Anthony Craven and Colby William, Kyle Matthew and Tara Ailis Sholtis, sister: Dorothy Wise of Clive, IA, several nieces & nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 from 4-7:00 p.m. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Msgr. Kevin W. Vann celebrant. Burial will follow in Old Salem Cemetery, Gardner Township, Sangamon County, Illinois where military honors will be performed. The family of Damon John Sholtis is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
