Dan Griffith

Dan Griffith, 28, of Jerseyville, died at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at his home. Dan was born May 31, 1988 in Springfield, the son of Katherine Hughes Griffith McLaughlin and Michael John Martin, Sr. Dan graduated from Porta High School in 2007. He was employed as a Security Therapy Aid with the Alton Mental Health Center and previously at the Chester Mental Health Center and Jacksonville Developmental Center. He was a martial artist and motorcycle enthusiast. Dan was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis and Elizabeth Hughes, John and Eileen Martin, and Doris Jean Litton and an uncle, David Martin. He is survived by his mother, Katie (husband, Dan) McLaughlin of Petersburg; father, Mike Martin of Springfield and dad, Stewart M. (Donna) Griffith of Clay City, IL; brothers, Bartholomew (Jessica Schafer) Griffith of Athens and Michael John Martin, Jr. of Springfield; grandfathers; Floyd T. Griffith of Springfield and Clyde Litton of Louisville, IL; niece, Haydyn Schafer; nephew, Ben Griffith; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral Ceremony and Visitation: 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Celebrant Judy Woerner. Visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation.
