Daniel P. "Woody" Woodward, 84, of Riverton, died at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Daniel was born December 8, 1928 in Sparta, IL the son of Harold O. and Edna Palmer Woodward. He married Carole Ann Dost on February 24, 1957 in Springfield. Daniel was a graduate of Lanphier High School in 1946 and proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a charter member of Illinois National Guard 183rd Fighter Group. He worked for Sangamo Electric for 31 years and then as a security guard for the Illinois Supreme Court. He was a member of Riverton Christian Church and the Illinois Pilots Association. He was a member of the Vintage Iron Riders. Daniel enjoyed flying since 1946, motorcycle racing, and was a great storyteller. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold O'Dell Woodward; and a sister, Janice Black. He is survived by his wife, Carole Ann Woodward of Riverton; two daughters, Wendy W. (husband, Russ) Nation and Claudia K. (husband, Ron) Hudgins, both of Riverton; son, Clayton "Lee" (wife, Sue) Woodward of Spaulding; four grandchildren, Tim, Sara Beth, Spencer and Sean; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Jean Griffin of New Braunfels, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Grant Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
