

David was born on January 4, 1944, in Springfield, the son of Lester and Mary Quinn Martin. He married George Ann Egizii on January 30, 1965, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on April 2, 2007.
David graduated from Griffin High School where he played football and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University, where he played football, as well. He was employed for several years at Springfield Bakers Supply and then for the State of Illinois. David was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and enjoyed traveling with George Ann, going to SHG Football games, painting, watching westerns, but most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
David was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Geiser; and brother, Robert “Bob” Martin.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael D. Martin and Christopher J. Martin, both of Springfield; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” (husband, Aaron) Spengler of Springfield; six grandchildren, Drake, Karée, and Kade Martin, and Cohen, Carter, and Callie Spengler; sister, Mary Fran Clark of Biloxi, MS; sisters-in-law, Ann Martin, Mary Jo Egizii, Maureen Egizii, and Katie (husband, Joe) Antonacci, all of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The gathering will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
A private burial will be held at West Cemetery in Thayer at a later date.
