David L. "Bud" O'Shea

Bud was born on December 29, 1934, to Harold and Jane O’Shea. He married Helene C. Eddington on July 6, 1957, in a Catholic ceremony at U.S. Army Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. They shared 50 loving years together before her death in 2007.

In 2010, Bud married Judy Maher Redick at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on November 26.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helene; his infant son, Thomas E. O’Shea; and his brother, Pat O’Shea.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy; four children, David L. O’Shea II, Maureen J. (Mike) Holcomb, Linda M. Howell, and Michael E. (Beth) O’Shea; 13 grandchildren, David L. III, Ryan, and Michelle O’Shea, Jason and Jeremy Miller, Garry and Zachary Holcomb, Rosemary, Julianne, Christopher, and Annmarie Howell, and Matthew and Grace O’Shea; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Audrey, Ryleigh, McKinley, Tiernan, Parker, Christian, Tyler, Keegan, Liam, Rhett, and Haisley; and two brothers, Rev. James O’Shea and Paul O’Shea.

With the exception of 18 months that he served in the US Army in Stuttgart, Germany, Bud lived his entire life in Springfield.

Bud spent the last 70 years of his life working at O’Shea Builders. Although he attempted to drop out of school to work alongside his beloved grandfather as early as kindergarten, he did not officially join the company until high school. Bud believed he was truly “born to build.” One of his favorite ways to spend time was by taking his family to see the progress on local job sites. He had a strong and honest work ethic, and he took immense pride in having built the business with his family. The projects that were most meaningful to him were the renovations of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Blessed Sacrament Church.

In addition, Bud loved to spend time at his “cabin in the woods”, watch the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball, and go on long drives to enjoy “God’s beautiful country.” His greatest joy, however, was in time spent with his family. Bud was a treasured father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.

He was a devout Catholic and a member of Christ the King Parish. To his dying day, Bud professed his profound gratitude to God for all the blessings in his life.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Drive, Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 3:45 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Peter C. Harman and Very Rev. James D. O'Shea, VF, co-celebrants.

A private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
