

He was born September 27, 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland the son of James and Elizabeth Gavin Reid. On March 24, 1952 he married Roxie Whittington Reid in Portage Park, IL. She preceded him in death in 1995. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Thomas Reid.
Mr. Reid was a US Army Veteran, serving during WWII as a master sergeant in the signal corp. After the war, he went back to work for Illinois Bell Telephone as well as back to school at Illinois Institute of Technology. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering. He retired after 46 years, having risen to Division Manager of outside plant and construction.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mr. Reid was an avid woodworker and golfer.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Ann (Norman A.) Hoback of Belleville, IL; sister-in-law, Carolyn Reid of Scottsdale, AZ; a niece, Bonnie Reid-Roach of Downers Grove, IL; and two nephews Thomas Reid of Philadelphia, PA and James Reid of Cambridge, MA.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Rev. Julie Wells-Blythe will be officiating. Interment will be private at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL.
