David R. Tolbert

David was born October 3, 1952, in Christopher, IL, the son of Russell David and Mary Ellen Spencer Tolbert. He married Paula J. DeWitt on July 23, 1976, in Springfield, IL.

David graduated from Lincoln High School. He was a long time manager with Shop-n-Save on Wabash Ave. and then retired from the North Grand location. David was a member of the Springfield Coin Club. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help out or lend a hand. David was also very humble and had a great laugh. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and was known as the Disney/Mickey Mouse guy. He gave great advice and loved his dogs, gardening, and was known for his flowers and spinners. David’s greatest joy was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Craycraft; and his grand dog, Zamboni.

David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Paula Tolbert of Springfield and daughter, Carrie Tolbert of Springfield.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield, IL.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
