

He was born on October 2, 1934, in Leon, WI, the son of Lloyd and Anna (Marshall) Van Dyke. He married Helen (Geist) Peddycoart on April 22, 1983 in Decatur.
Mr. Van Dyke graduated from Lanphier High School in 1952. He was employed at Citizens Tribune Newspaper, Burton M, Reid Wholesale Jewelry, MacCartneys IGA, Tollys Market, Butternut Bakery, and the Illinois State Journal-Register for 43 years- retiring October 18, 1996. Delbert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, puzzles, gambling at the casinos, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughters, Crystal (Rich) Greenwald of Bloomington, IL, April (Lee) Macdonald of Roswell, GA, Dawn Kil of Acworth, GA, Pamela (Marty) Wounded Arrow of Batesland, SD, and Tish (David) McCafferty of Rochester, IL; son, Mark (Tina) Peddycoart of Beardstown, IL; fifteen grandchildren, Justin Peddycoart, Allison Peddycoart, Laura Peddycoart, Cassie Greenwald, Steven Greenwald, Michelle Greenwald, Nick Spooner, Chris Spooner, Devin Zimmerman, Kayla Zimmerman, Stacey Barreras, Jessica Pilkington, Becky Peddycoart, Lucas McCafferty, and Chloe McCafferty; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Thelma Smith and Marcella Contri; three brothers, Clyde, Verlyn and Marvin Van Dyke; son, Randy Peddycoart; and granddaughter, Jennifer Clark.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Caughlan officiating. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity. Burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Department of Defense.
