She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gladys and James Mayfield; brothers, Tom and Jim Mayfield; and grandson, James Barrow.
Dee began her career in banking working for Security Federal before launching a long career with Illinois National Bank in 1963. She made many friendships at INB before joining state government in 1986 and working for the Departments of Revenue and Central Management Services. Once she retired, her kids worried that she would be bored but that never happened. Dee had coffee most mornings at Hardees and Panera with old friends and made a number of new friends. She continued working in her yard, mowing grass, trimming bushes, picking up grandkids from school or taking them to activities, attending the grandkids’ sporting events, running to three different grocery stores to get the best deals, and visiting with her kids most evenings after they got off work. The most important thing to Dee was her family. She spent time with her kids, celebrating holidays, family birthdays, Sunday dinners, and joining them on vacations. Dee cherished her role as Nannie to her grandkids, and in the last couple years, her role as a great-grandmother.
Dee moved to Concordia in the Spring of 2022. She lived in Independent Living and then Assisted Living. Her last move within Concordia, in May of 2024, was to Memory Support. There, the staff fell in love with her. They loved her spicy attitude, her witty no filtered comments, her need to be nicely dressed including makeup every day, and that she had her hair done every week. She loved spending time outside even in the heat, just so she could soak up some sun. She enjoyed daily visits from her kids, playing bingo, bunco, once a week visits from our very special friend, Sally Quinn, helping with gardening and listening to music, and especially lunches with Leslie on Saturdays, a cocktail or glass of wine every now and then with Julie, and visits from Mike to talk sports. She especially loved the visits and FaceTime calls with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Dee’s family is forever grateful to the entire staff at Concordia.
Dee is survived by her daughters, Julie (Carter) Hendren and Leslie (Alvin) Barrow; son, Michael Senger; grandchildren, Kyle (Megan) Barrow, Emily (Travis) Krofchick, Randi (Ben) Krol, and Abigail (Conor) White; great-grandchildren, Saylor Krofchick, Blake Barrow, Wess Krol, Asher Krofchick, and another great granddaughter that should arrive any day.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A Service to celebrate Dee’s life will be held at EverTrue Concordia Village Chapel on Friday, October 10, 2025. Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Because of Dee’s love of the outdoors and flowers, memorial contributions for the patio and garden in the Memory Support wing can be made to EverTrue Concordia Village Memory Support.
Dee will be missed by all that knew her, but especially her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
