Denise Lynne Byrne

She was born in Taylorville on September 26, 1962, the daughter of Melvin and Betty (Pickering) Wilham. Denise married Robert Byrne at Washington Park in Springfield on September 12, 1986.

Denise was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, lovingly known as Mama Byrne. She graduated from Edinburg High School in 1980 and went on to work with the Department of Revenue for the State of Illinois for over 30 years. Denise was also the department head of Walk-Ins at the Willard Ice Building before retiring in 2014. She enjoyed trips to the beach, golf, cooking a delicious meal for friends and family, gardening, and traveling – especially to Florida and Gulf Shores.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty; and sister, Debbie Wilham.

Denise is survived by Robert (husband); Melvin (father); Alexander (son) and Faelyn Byrne; Dena (daughter) and Tim Pope; Ava and Jase Pope (grandchildren); Tux (granddog); Don (brother) Wilham and his partner, Wanda Turley; Dwight (brother) and Diane Wilham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Service: Family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, until the time of the service at 5:00 p.m.

The family invites you to bring a copy of your favorite photo of Denise to post on a collage board at the time of services.

The family will host Celebration of Life following services at Firefighters Lake Club, 940 W. Lake Shore Dr., Springfield.
