
Don was a resident of Concordia Village for the past six years with his wife, Wid (as she was known to friends and family).
They had been married for 66 years when Wid passed away in April of this year. Don and Wid are now reunited in heaven for eternity.
Don was born July 20, 1928 in Springfield, IL, to Don and Erma Davidson. He grew up in Springfield, attending and graduating from Dubois Grade School, Springfield High School and Springfield Junior College. Don and Wid were married on August 28, 1948 and raised their three daughters in Springfield.
While Don was in high school and college, he enjoyed playing competitive sports, specifically, basketball. In later years, especially after his retirement, he played golf with friends on a regular basis.
Don enjoyed a successful career with Dale Carnegie and Associates, serving in various capacities, over a decades long period of time.
While working for Dale Carnegie, Don had the privilege of traveling to many countries. He spent time in Europe, South America, South Africa, Singapore and Australia, as well as many cities in the United States.
Don participated in a number of men's Bible Studies and prayer groups as his Christian faith was of primary importance in his life.
Don is survived by his three daughters: Christine (William) Pipkin of Tallahassee, FL, Dian (Charles) Ducey of Troy, IL, and Kim
(Edward) Smith of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Zachary (Sarah) Pipkin, William (Rebekah) Pipkin and John (Jacquelynn) Pipkin, Chad Ducey and Hannah Ducey, Edward (Mary Catherine) Smith and Natalie (Kullen) Kifer. In addition, there are 15 great-grandchildren: Moriah, Micaiah, Lydia, Lily, Jubilee, Shianne, Shiloh, Brody and Braun Pipkin; Madison and Hudson Smith; Adalynn and Jackson Kifer; and step great-grandchildren: Graham and Annie Blanks. Don is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Anna Geraldine and Robert Gasaway of Springfield, IL, as well as another sister-in-law, Norma Harms, also of Springfield, IL.
A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Bisch and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
