

Doris J. Colvin, 75, of Springfield, died at 10:13 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. Doris was born on May 11, 1930 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Carl W. and Laura Louise Young Piper. She married Eugene Colvin on June 12, 1948 in Springfield. She retired from J. W. Hobbs Corporation after forty years of service. Doris volunteered at Regency Nursing Home on Mondays and Wednesdays for 12 years. Her love for children inspired her to sponsor children in India and Mexico. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Cynthia Louise Colvin in 1951, parents and one sister: Virginia L. Gudgel. She is survived by her husband: Eugene Colvin of Springfield; two nieces: Doris Morgan and Linda Smith both of Springfield; five nephews: Charles William Gudgel, David Gudgel Sr. and Walter Gudgel Sr. all of Pawnee, Carl Gudgel of Springfield and Loren Greer of Elkhart, IL; several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2125 N. 21st St., Springfield, IL with Fr. Don Wolford celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1305 Wabash, Ste. J, Springfield, IL 62704.
