

Doris Theresa Kelly, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on February 16, 2018 at Cedarhurst of Edwardsville, IL after a long illness. She was born on October 25, 1929 in Springfield, IL, the eldest daughter of the late George and Ann (nee Power) Chapman. Doris attended St. Patricks School and graduated with honors from Feitshans High School as valedictorian of the class of 1948.. She married Peter B. Kelly on February 3, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1990. Doris was a loving wife and mother to four children. Her husbands career took the family to Minneapolis, MN and St. Louis, MO, happily returning to Springfield and Chatham, IL. She retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue as a Data Entry Supervisor after 25 years of service. She is survived by her children, Alan (Sheila) Kelly of Elizabeth, CO, Patricia Kelly of Jacksonville, IL and Peggy (Curt) Lambdin of Edwardsville, IL. A daughter, Pamela (Warren) Martin preceded her in death in 2017. Doris was dearly loved by her seven grandchildren, Emily (Peter) Williamson, Meghan and Ian (Celia) Kelly, Katie, Spencer, and Patrick Lambdin. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Brynna, Durren, Eleora, and Nathan Williamson and Liam Kelly. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara (George) Doerfler and Ellen (Gary) White, both of Springfield, IL; an extended family of nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Doris was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Chapman; and four brothers, John, her twin brother, Maurice, Raymond, and Martin Chapman. Doris was a founding member and past president of WIAHES (Wives of Illinois Association of Highway Engineers). She was an avid bridge player and a voracious reader. Doris was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She was a talented seamstress and knitter, and she also enjoyed baking and working in her iris garden. She was happiest when she was giving to others and loved being surrounded by family, especially at Christmastime. Her kind and generous spirit touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 - 11:15 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Roderick officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
