

Dorothy M. Netznik, 85, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
She was born in Leeds, North Dakota, May 15, 1928 the daughter of Ernest C. and Theodena G. Thompson Porter. She graduated with honor's from Lanphier High School in 1946 and was a member of the National Honor's Society. Dorothy married Henry R. Netznik in Springfield May 28, 1949 and he preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2004. Also proceeding her in death were her great grandson, Alex Anderson, July 24, 2011 and 2 brothers; Ronald and William Porter.
Surviving are her 3 daughters; Georgine (husband Bill) Stephens of Springfield, Marlene (husband Patrick) Sponsler of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Gail (husband Greg) Bowers of Tiskilwa, IL. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Harry (wife Sally) Porter of Fairbanks, AK, and R. Scott (wife Linda) Porter of Peoria, IL, and her sister, Evelyn Mitchell of Sacramento, CA. She has several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy worked at Allis Chalmers Manufacturing and then for the St. Nicholas Hotel. She retired in 1983 from the Mansion View. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Dorothy served as a Brownie leader. She was known for her many talents, especially care giving, gardening, crocheting, and cooking. She loved vegetable and flower gardens. She also had many indoor plants. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching sports of all kinds on TV.
Arrangements for Dorothy are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where her family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of services there at 10:30 am. Rev. Michael Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
