

Dr. Richard G. ''Rich'' Kloppenburg DDS, 76, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Springfield, died Monday May 21st, 2001 at his residence in Naples. He was born in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Carl & Katherine Bartel Kloppenburg. He married Barbara Temple at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield in 1951. She preceded him in death May 1st, 1978. He married Patricia Pope in 1981. Dr. Kloppenburg attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, graduated from Springfield High School in 1942 and graduated from St. Louis University Dental School. He practiced General Dentistry in Springfield for many years. He was a member of the G.V. Black Dental Society. Dr. Kloppenburg served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. He also served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois National Guard. He was an active golfer and a longtime member of Illini Country Club in Springfield. In addition, he was a resident of Naples, Florida for over 20 years and enjoyed many rounds of golf at Quail Creek Country Club. Dr. Kloppenburg was also preceded in death by his brother Carl and his beloved parents. Surviving is his wife Patricia Kloppenburg of Naples, Florida; daughters- Leigh (husband-Phillip) Reed of Springfield, Kathi Keyes of Rantoul, Illinois, and Jane Kloppenburg of Naples, Florida; step-children- Julie Hurrelbrink of Springfield, Larry Pope of Naples, Florida, and Betsy (Husband-Joe) Goulet of Springfield; 11 Grandchildren- Kevin, Matt, Jenny, Becky, Julie, Brian, Stephanie, Rachel, Josh, Jennifer, and Michelle; and sister-in-law- Elizabeth Kloppenburg. The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday May 24th, 2001 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th Street in Springfield. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 25th, 2001 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Rev. William Kessler celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. There will be a memorial service in Naples, Florida which will be announced at a later date.
