

He was born on August 21, 1929 in Macomb, IL, the son of the late Dwight Roy and Minnie Bell (Loy) Wilmot. He married Jacquelyn Woods on Sept. 12, 1952 in Lewistown, IL and she survives.
Max was a retired Sgt. Major and was with the Illinois National Guard for 40 years. He was in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was called to riot duty several times during those years. He was a boy scout leader and went camping with his boys. He was a part time employee of the carousel at White Oaks Mall. He loved to go fishing and camping. Max was a member of West Side Christian Church and the TNT class of that church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 759 in Chatham, IL. He was also a McDonald’s morning coffee member and attended Chatham Baptist Church occasionally.
Besides his wife Jacquelyn, he is survived by 2 sons, Rev. Timothy Wilmot of Billings, MT, and Gary (wife Angela) Wilmot of Chatham, IL, a daughter-in-law Sandra Wilmot of Springfield; 5 grandchildren, Amy (husband Jerady) Sticka and Brent Wilmot of Montana and Jill (companion Eric Nelson) Wilmot, Jamie (husband Nick) Merritt, and Jacob Wilmot, all of Springfield; 2 step-grandchildren, B. Dologoontuul of Mongolia and B. Espin-Erdine of Chicago; 2 great-grandchildren, Jonathon Sticka of Montana, Corinne Daugherty of Springfield, and 1 step great-grandchild of Mongolia; a sister, Mary Sauers of Lincoln, IL, a niece and 2 nephews. He is also survived by his beloved pets, Auggie and Ceecee.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Capt. Steven Wilmot, a sister Betty Wilmot, and 2 half-sisters, Ruth and Doris.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, where memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at 11:30 am, with Dr. Milton Bost and Rev. Gary Winkelman officiating. Friends may visit from 10:30 am until time of the memorial service. Inurnment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
