

Edward "Ed" J. Bentley, 70, of Springfield, died at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Ed was born December 2, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Melvin J. and Rose M. Sicilia Bentley. He married his wife Kathy on March 26, 2001 in Destin, FL. Ed was a graduate of Springfield High School and worked for the State of Illinois State Board of Education and then Central Management Services for a combined total of over 35 years. He was a member of Mensa and Intel, Springfield Racquet Club and was a supporter of Washington Park District. Ed was an avid tennis player, huge Boston Red Sox fan, loved Nascar and also loved going on vacation and spending time at the beach. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Rose Bentley of Springfield; his wife, Kathy Bentley of Springfield; son, Edward (wife, Sue) Bentley, Jr. of Michigan; daughter, Stacey (husband, Chad) Rogers of Normal; and grandchildren, Joey Bentley of Michigan, Emily and Haley Rogers, both of Normal. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Tennis Program at Velasco Tennis Complex at Washington Park, 1400 Williams Blvd., Springfield, IL 62704.
