

Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1941, in Elmhurst, Illinois.
He was a graduate of Downers Grove North High School in 1959. He graduated from St.
Louis College of Pharmacy in 1965. He owned Dodge Pharmacy in Hinsdale, Illinois. The
pharmacy later relocated to Willowbrook, Illinois where it was renamed Duffy Pharmacy. Both
were known as a gathering place for the firemen and policemen on their coffee breaks. The
pharmacy was open until the early 90s. He served as President of IPHA from 1978-1979 and was
a long-time member of the Illinois Board of Pharmacy. He served as Drug Compliance
Coordinator in the enforcement division of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional
Regulation beginning in 1986. Shortly after his initial employment with the state, he went
through the Cook County Sheriff’s Academy and graduated in 1987. While working for the state,
his tireless efforts led to solid enforcement, skilled investigations, and genuine education and
communication with pharmacy practitioners.
He had a heart of gold for the profession he loved and served as a mentor to many new and practicing pharmacists. He worked in this profession until 2001 when he retired. On October 5, 2019, he received the IPHA Lifetime Pharmacy Service Award for his loyal and dedicated service to IPHA and the profession of pharmacy.
Ed was a member of the Masons, Scottish Right, 32nd Degree in the Consistory, Shriner, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9F, and Illinois Police Association. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren on his country property; deer hunting, working outside and being with his dogs and cats. Breakfast was his favorite meal, he liked meeting friends at Charlie Parker’s Diner, and loved taking his kids and grandkids out of school to accompany him on his adventures.
Ed was married to Cynthia Saunders on September 11, 1965, and they were married for
28 years. To that marriage, they had Kelly and Mike Duffy. He married Lesley Baer on December 28, 1993, in Springfield and they celebrated 27 years of marriage and 32 years together until his death.
He is survived by his wife Lesley Duffy, his brother Bill Duffy (Kathi), and their son Bill
Duffy Jr. (Kate), his ex-wife Cynthia Duffy, daughter Kelly Heyel-Wiggins (Ed Karrick), sons
Michael Duffy, David Baer (Sara), grandson Ryan Heyel, and granddaughters Kelcie Baer,
Hannah Wiggins, and Grace Wurtzler, brothers-in-law, Harry Saunders (Jane), and Steven Baer
(Rhonda). He is fondly remembered by his extended family Diane Baer, Katie Baer, and Zachary
Lael (Brittany) and numerous close friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews, and hunting family
in Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Florence (Dienert) Duffy,
mother and father-in-law Ed and Helen Baer, and sister-in-law Linda Baer.
Cremation rites were accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to: Shriner’s
Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, or
