

He was born in Peoria, IL., Sept. 1, 1938 the son of LaVern and M. Geraldine Cameron Goett. His parents, a brother Joseph, and a sister Janice Ulrich preceded him in death. Ed married Nancy Rogers and she preceded him in death also. He married Brenda Thomas, October 21, 1995 and she survives.
He is also survived by his children, Edward E. (wife Tracy) Goett of Springfield, IL, Shannon (husband Kevin) Flaherty of High Point, NC, Phillip Goett of Richmond, VA, Bridgit Goett of Lincoln, IL, Duncan (wife Angie) Goett and Gabrielle (husband Douglas) Neuweg both of Springfield, Nickolus Goett of California, 2 stepchildren Aaron (wife Emily) Venters of Morrison, IL and Annette (husband Aric) Morgan of Loveland, CO, 21 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, 4 brothers; David (wife Patty) Goett of Omaha, NE, Dennis (wife Pam) Goett, Mark ( wife Maureen) Goett, and Jeff (wife Maureen) Goett all of Peoria Heights,IL, 2 sister-sin-law Benita Goett of East Peoria, IL, and Sandra (husband Kenneth) Friese of Stewardson, IL, 2 brothers-in-law Mike (wife Reyna) Ulrich of Peoria, IL and Everett L. (wife Joan) thomas of Coopertown, TN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He began his career with the United States Federal Government with the United States Postal Service. He joined the Army National Guard out of high school and later became fulltime serving 38 years achieving the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Christ The King Parish in Springfield, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1281 in Mt. Sterling, IL, a member of the American Legion, the National Guard Association of Illinois and the National Guard Association of the United States.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, where a prayer service will be held Monday August 27, 2012 at 4 pm with visitation following until 7 pm. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday August 28, 2012 at Christ The King Church 1930 Barberry, Springfield from 9:30 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Father Joseph Ring and Father. J. Thomas Henseler, Celebrants. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
