Edward Joseph Malone

Edward Joseph Malone, 88, of Springfield, died at 10:17 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2006 at St. John's Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1917 in Springfield, the son of Elmer and Elizabeth McGlennon Malone. He married Dorothy Aylesworth on June 21, 1958 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Edward was employed at Allis Chalmers for thirty years until his retirement at age fifty-five. A member of the Springfield community his entire life; he was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Allis Chalmers Union. He loved antiques and was an avid antique dealer and collector. Edward was very well-read and articulate. He thought it was important to be well-informed regarding global politics and current affairs. He enjoyed watching the news and also had a love of history. He was very creative, artistic and enjoyed fixing things. He would buy houses and fix them up and also repaired lawn mowers. He also liked wagons and bikes. An outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, growing gardens and he loved animals. A hardworking, humorous and determined gentleman who was intensely proud of his Irish heritage; Edward will be remembered by family and friends for the love and dedication he gave to his family. He was preceded in death by one brother: Herbert Malone. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Malone of Springfield; three daughters: Karen (husband, Mohammed) Tahir, Sharon (companion, George Nelson) Malone, and Michelle (husband, Peter) Sgro all of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Crystal (husband, Damien) Amber, Ashley, Isabella, Edward, Salvatore and Imran; two great-grandchildren: Desiree and Damien; one brother: Richard (wife, Delores) Malone of Monroeville, PA and several nieces and nephews. Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Donald Meehling celebrant. Visitation will immediately follow the Funeral Mass from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2006 at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, with Rev. Donald Meehling officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Braveheart Therapeutic Riding Center, Attn: Ceci Maloney, 4652 Birmingham Dr., Pawnee, IL 62258.
