Edwin Lee Johnson

Edwin "Lee" Johnson, 72, of Springfield, died at 9:23 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. Lee was born August 10, 1938 in Springfield, the son of Edwin H. and Vera Kelly Johnson. He married Judith Anne Bennett on December 28, 1957. Lee graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1956 and then served his country in the U.S. Navy. Lee began working with his father, Ed, running the family business, Johnson and Johnson Auto Service. Johnson and Johnson held many locations in the Springfield area and is currently in its 80th year and fourth generation located at 14th St. and Stevenson Drive. It is run by his children and his grandchildren. He was also a former partner of J & L Auto Parts. In the late 70's, he was an announcer and coach for the Springfield Youth Hockey Association and Sangamon Valley Figure Skating Association. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #158, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Patrick County, Virginia Genealogy Society. He and Judy have traveled to over 91 cities in 8 different countries. Lee enjoyed fishing, as well as hunting and playing the guitar in his younger years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, William Profrock, Jr. Lee is survived by his wife, Judith Anne Johnson of Springfield; four children, Michael Lee (wife, Lisa) Johnson of Springfield, Timothy James (companion, Emberly Bollinger) Johnson of Springfield, Kevin J. (wife, Karen) Johnson of Rochester and Michelle Anne (husband, Jack) Lomprez of Rochester; twelve grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Alexandria Johnson and Evan Johnson, all of Springfield; Timothy Johnson, Jr. (companion, Sarah Strait) of CO, James Lee Johnson (companion, Lauren Cobau) of Springfield, Jason Andrew Johnson (companion, Amanda Rathgeb) of Auburn and Cooper Jackson Johnson of Springfield; Carolyn Johnson of Springfield, PFC Daniel Johnson of Camp Pendleton, CA and Brian Johnson of Springfield; and Kyle and Kelsey Lomprez of Rochester; four great-grandchildren, Bella, Nicholas, Ivy and Eva Johnson; sister, Laura E. Profrock of Springfield; sister-in-law, Nancy Ryan of Springfield; aunt, Eunice Anderson of Peoria; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Deacon Thomas A. Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
