

Elbert Earl Beasley, 88, of Springfield, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1928 in Springfield to the late Floyd Earl and Mildred Marie Cooper Beasley. Elbert retired in 1994, as Director of Information Services, Office of the Illinois State Comptroller. He previously was employed with the Department of Finance at the State of Illinois, General American Life Insurance Company, Chesapeake and Ohio Railways, Franklin Life Insurance Company and as an Arthur Murray Dance Instructor. He was a co-owner for 20+ years of Deer Park Campgrounds near New Salem. He and his wife were avid ballroom dancers and members of The Nighthawks Dance Club and the Elks Club #158. He enjoyed music, playing in local bands and singing at Muni Opera. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Virden Bulldogs and the Fighting Illini. Elbert graduated from Virden High School (1946), Illinois College (1950), and attended the University of Illinois MBA program. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Donna of Springfield; son, Todd Beasley of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters, Beth M. Beasley of Springfield and Julie (Cam) Simmons of Cedar Falls, Iowa; brother, Harold (Carol) Beasley of Payson, Arizona; grandchildren, Abbey (Peter) Theroux of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hali Simmons of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Susan Beasley of Boise, Idaho; great-grandchildren Brynn Theroux, Chloe Theroux, Brandon Simmons; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His family will greet friends from 4pm-7pm, Thursday, March 16, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Funeral ceremony will be held at 10am, Friday, March 17, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham with Rev. Sara Isbell officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois College, 1101 W. College Avenue, Jacksonville, IL(Attn: Office of Development Alumni Relations).
