

Elizabeth Pexton Stuart, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 3:40 p.m. at Oak Terrace. She was born November 1, 1919 in Harlan, IA and attended Grinnell College. She transferred to the University of Michigan, where she met and married Robert A. Stuart of Sheridan, WY. He preceded her in death in January of 1988 after 49 years of marriage. Betty Stuart was active in Chapter B.F., PEO; Grateful Daughters Kings Daughters; Book Review Club; Book Reading Club; The Carillon Belles; the Springfield Art Association; Symphony Guild; Junior League; Springfield Lawyers Wives; the Sangamo Club; the National Recreation Foundation; Sangamon State University Foundation; the American Red Cross; and Christ Episcopal Church. Surviving are two daughters, Anne Linxwiler (Mrs. John F.) of Springfield and Dr. Mary Lou Stuart Fleitman (Dr. Jay Fleitman) of Northampton, MA; son, Robert A Stuart, Jr. of Springfield; six grandchildren, John Stuart Linxwiler of Springfield, Leigh Anne Coon of Brandon, FL, Elizabeth Corinne Stuart of Springfield, C. Todd Lynch (Janet) of Haydenville, MA, Jessica Fleitman of New York City, NY, and Zackary Fleitman of Boston, MA; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler Linxwiler, Mati Linxwiler, Meagan Coon, Sylvia Lynch, and Tillie Lynch. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:15 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church, 611 E. Jackson St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Gregory A. Tournoux officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
