Ellen Teresa Monahan

Ellen Teresa Monahan, 90, of Springfield, died at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at St. John's Hospital, Hospice Unit. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on July 4, 1916, the daughter of Thomas and Brigette Creighton OMalley. She married William A. Monahan in 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1975. She is also preceded in death by one son, William A. Monahan, Jr. in 1984. Mrs. Monahan was a member of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. She was employed by the St. Nicholas, the Leland and the Mansion View Hotels. Survivors: Three sons: Michael (wife, Linda) Monahan of Williamsburg, Virginia, Bernard Monahan and James (wife, Judy) Monahan all of Springfield; Three daughters: Mary Chimento of Rochester, Patricia (husband, Ike) Floyd of Jacksonville and Joann (husband, Rob) Miller of Springfield; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Homes, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
