
Emil L. Krofchick, 88 of Sherman, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the Villa Healthcare East. Emil was born on November 14, 1917 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, the son of John, Sr. and Caroline Ludwig Krofchick. He married Alida Krueger in August 1947 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on April 2, 1991. He was a WWII U.S.Army Veteran and the recipient of the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/3 Bronze Battle Stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead, 6 Overseas Service Bars and 1 Service Stripe. He served in three major battles: Macon Island, Saipan and Okinawa where he was wounded on April 22, 1945. He retired in 1980 from Pillsbury Mills where he was employed for 44 years in the maintenance department. He was also preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Mary, Chris, Francis, Elizabeth, Ann and Helen and one brother, John. He is survived by one son, Alan (wife, Patricia) Krofchick of Springfield; one grandson, Tyler Ray Krofchick of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Ceremony will be held, commencing at the committal shelter at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 14, 2006 with Rev. Thomas G. Radtke officiating. The Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 S. 2nd.
