

Emily Ann McVay, 27, of Springfield, went home to God on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Emily was born on January 20, 1991, in Springfield, the daughter of Keith and Rebecca Matejka McVay. Emily was a 2009 graduate of Springfield High School. She enjoyed writing poems and short stories and was an avid film fan, as well. Emily was loving, kind, and incredibly witty with a great sense of humor. She had an infectious smile and a contagious laugh. She loved to mend things for those she cared about. Emily had "a heart like no other." She had survived two open heart surgeries. She was a member of the Springfield Center for Independent Living, as she was a stroke survivor as well. Emily was a professional student of life, and in being that she was also a great teacher to those of us blessed to have her in our lives. She was preceded in death by her dad, Keith McVay; grandparents, Laura and Leon Matejka, Sr.; and grandfather, Jesse Henry McVay. She is survived by her mother, Rebecca (husband, Richard) Dupont of Springfield; step-mom, Christine McVay of Springfield; grandmother, Sue McVay of Springfield; three siblings, Jesse (wife, Katie) McVay of Decatur, Andrea Matejka of Athens, and Ian (wife, Jessica) Evans of Greenview, IL; nieces and nephews, Ashly Watkins Burge and Becca Evans, Griffin, Alex, Sam, and Layla Matejka, and Henry McVay; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Emily had a special place in her heart for Miyah and Matthew, who were very dear to her; as well as her dear friend, Chad Braatz. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 730 South 12th St., Springfield, with Rev. James Issacson, S.J.C., celebrant. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
