

Emma "Jean" Peterman, 73, of Springfield, died at 1:21 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Jean was born September 3, 1940 in Springfield, the daughter of Henry and Hattie Smith Sommer, Sr. Jean graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1958 and was employed from 1989 to 2004 with the Sangamon County Highway Department. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and enjoyed yard work and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jim Miller; two brothers, Henry Sommer, Jr. and Paul Sommer; and one sister, Theresa Sommer. She is survived by her son, Timothy (wife, Terri) Miller of Springfield; daughter, Pam (husband, Dan) Neuman of Loami; brother, Frank (wife, Gena) Sommer of Pleasant Plains; sister, Rose (husband, Russell) Albert of Chatham; four grandchildren, Tiffany (husband, Chris) Stritzel, Amanda (husband, Brendan) Bachman, Chrissy Miller, and Rachael Miller; great-grandson, Owen Stritzel; great-granddaughter, Paige Stritzel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Memorial Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N.
