

Esther Noel Reed 71, of Springfield, died at 2:58 AM Friday, October 4, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 26, 1942, in Ashland, IL, the daughter of William McKinley and Letta Esther Lowe Noel. Esther married Charles Larry Bettis in 1962, and divorced in 1978. She married Karl Edwin Reed, Jr., who survives her, on Feb. 14, 1992. Also surviving are two children Lori Osborne (husband James) of Normal, IL and Crystal Bettis of St. Louis and one granddaughter, Megan Osborne, two stepchildren: Karen Soukhodolets (husband Max) of Lumberton, Texas and David Reed (wife Monica) of Williamsville, IL and four step grandchildren: Eric and Ashley Reed and Alina and Alexey Soukhodolets. Esther is survived by three sisters, Sylvia (Don) Cox of Virginia; Mildred Painter of Havana; Betty (Chuck) Waterfield of Chandlerville; and three brothers, Terry (Ruby) and Jerry (Paula) all of Pontiac and Harlin (Sue) Noel of Chandlerville. Esther was preceded in death by five brothers, Zollie, Vance, Joel, Wetzel and Milford Noel. Mrs. Reed graduated from Blackburn University in Carlinville in 1978 and worked for the State of Illinois for 25 years before retiring in 2002. Esther was a member of the Chatham Christian Church for many years. Esther also was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Captain William Penny Chapter and had an avid interest in history and genealogy. Esther also had a life-long interest in education and learning. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, with a DAR service at 6:45 PM, Sunday, October 6 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: There will be a visitation at the Chatham Christian Church, 9877 S. Main Street, Chatham, IL 62629 from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM Monday, October 7th with Rick Wenneborg officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials may be made for Lisu Bibles in care of the Chatham Christian Church.
