Ethel Roberta Ruby

Ethel Roberta Ruby, 79, of New Berlin, went to be with her Lord & Savior on December 29, 2009. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. She was born September 26, 1930 in Auburn, the daughter of Harry and Loretta Maddrill Sutheard. She married John D. Ruby on November 3, 1951. He preceded her in death in December 2004. She was also preceded by parents; and three brothers, Joe, Morse and Stanley Sutheard. She is survived by her beloved son, John (wife, Tawnya) Ruby of New Berlin; two grandsons, Troy Ruby of Normal and Todd (wife. Lindsay) Ruby of Troy; two granddaughters, Hanna and Jenna Ruby of New Berlin; one great granddaughter, Lydia Ruby of Troy; three brothers, Ed (wife, Ethel Mae) Sutheard, Charlie Sutheard (companion, Ida Watkins) and Frank (wife, Marguerite) Sutheard, as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Ethel worked for many years as a cook for New Berlin School and then worked in housekeeping at Memorial Medical Center, retiring after 23 years of service. She was a long time member of New Salem United Methodist Church and for the last several years a devoted member of Berlin Christian Church, where she loved attending Prayer Group, Adult Sunday school and working as a greeter at Sunday services. She also enjoyed her time spent with the Fiat Allis Retirees Club and the New Berlin Senior Citizen Lunch Club where she had many special friends. Ethel will always be remembered for her big heart and affectionate way, always having kind words and a hug for everyone she encountered. Our family would like to thank all of you who touched Ethel's life, which includes the wonderful Dr.'s and staff at Memorial Medical Center (ICU) who took such loving care of her in her last months of life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Berlin Christian Church, 2580 S. Wake Rd., New Berlin. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2010 at Berlin Christian Church, with Rev. Warren Brosi officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
