Eugene T. "Ted" Hoisington

Eugene Theadore “Ted” Hoisington passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Taylorville MMC after a brief battle with pneumonia. He was born on April 26, 1940 in Oakland, CA to Florence (nee Kamp) and Lloyd Hoisington.

He married Elizabeth “Beth” Ingles Kirman in 1972 and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Sarah and Amanda. He married Karen Lee Clinton (nee White) in 2017 and gained two stepchildren, Cassidie and Cody.

Ted lived in many places growing up and traveled the world during his time in the US Navy aboard the USS Saratoga. He was awarded the National Defense Service medal in recognition of his service. He was a proud member of the Assumption VFW Post 6577 and you would seldom find him in recent years without his USS Saratoga or VFW ball caps.

He finally settled in the central IL area in his 30s. He started his career in the computing field working for NCR. He and Beth started Digital Images, a graphic arts company, in the 1980's in Springfield, IL. He retired from his job as a database administrator at the IL State Board of Education in 2005 after 32 years of State service, 26 of which were with ISBE. By then, he had worked under more than half of the Superintendents of Public Instruction/State Superintendents of Education since the inception of the office. In retirement, he went to school to learn RV mechanics and scuba diving.

Ted enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking, camping, canoing, bicycling, music and dancing. He often shared fond memories of trips to Current River, MO and vacations to Aruba and Bonaire in the Caribbean with friends. He was interested in Native American heritage and would occasionally attend Pow-Wows with his dear friends Nakoma and Kati. He involved himself in several community organizations like PWP & Al-anon and was a member of Unity of Springfield. Ted was always quick to lend a hand and would be the first to pick up the tab, open the door, pull out the chair or offer a sweet treat.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Constance; mother, Florence (nee Kamp) Sciabica; and stepfather, Samuel Sciabica.

He is survived by wife, Karen; daughters Sarah (Aaron) Oberman and Amanda (Matt) Gallas; step-children Cassidie and Cody Clinton, 6 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.

Bisch & Son Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Visitation will be held at Bisch & Sons, 505 E Allen St, Springfield, IL on Thursday, June 2 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm with a graveside service at Camp Butler National Cemetery to follow at 1:00 pm. Military honors will be provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. A celebration of life will be held at Unity of Springfield, 417 E Cordelia St, Springfield, IL 62703 at 2:00 p.m. on June 4 with Peggy Tell officiating.
