

He was born on Jan. 22, 1928 in New Berlin, IL, the son of the late Charles Edward and Grace (Buchanan) Baker. He married Mary Law and she preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1962. He later married Dolores Harris and she preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2011.
Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He worked as a mechanic for Guiffre Buick in Springfield, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32, a life member of the VFW Post # 302, also very involved in the Ansar Shrine, being with the Legion of Honor, the Hillbillies, and the Turtles.
He is survived by his son Charles Thomas Baker of Springfield; 3 step-daughters, Pamela Jean Schmidt of Springfield, Brenda Kay (Carl) Smith of Florida, and Deborah Lee Harris of Florida; 4 grandchildren, Amy Michelle (Jason) Schmidt, Joseph Dallas (Valerie) Schmidt, Timothy Everett (Sabrina) Smith, and Kimberly Kay (Craig) Davis; 7 great-grandchildren, Julia, Shane, Bryce, Taylor, Devlin, Emmett, and Jacob; 1 brother Russell Baker of Springfield; and 2 sisters, Alice Crow of California and Helen Horn of New Berlin, IL.
Besides his parents and both of his wives, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond and Paul Baker, and 5 sisters, Beulah Bodine, Leatha Brown, Mary Cheffy, Myrtle Koke, and Opal Tuxhorn, 1 son in infancy; and 2 great-grandchildren, Sage and Ashleigh.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm. Masonic service conducted by the Springfield Masonic Lodge #4 AF&AM will be held at 8 pm immediately following the visitation. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and the Macon County Honor Guard.
