

Frances "Ann" Oswald, 80, of Springfield, passed away at 5:46 a.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Ann was born March 31, 1936 in Springfield, the daughter of James Murl and Frances Louise Kern DeFrates. She married Gerald William Oswald on June 15, 1957 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1999. Ann graduated from St. Agnes Grade School. She continued to enjoy quarterly gatherings with her St. Agnes classmates of 1950. Ann graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1954. She was a homemaker until the early 1980s when she went to work in the business office at St. John's Hospital for 27 years. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish where she assisted with funeral luncheons and was involved with St. Louise de Marillac, St. John's Hospital Retirees, and pinochle clubs. She enjoyed listening to talk radio and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, James DeFrates; and sister, Gertrude Short. She is survived by her son, Craig Oswald of Columbus, MS; two daughters, Karen (Mike) Frank of Springfield and Julie (Dan) Billingsley of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Brett (Courtney) Oswald of Springfield, Steven (Ashley) Oswald of Aviston, Christopher Frank of Austin, TX, Victor, Lauren, and Allison Frank, of Springfield, and Chloe and Sophie Billingsley of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Lainey and Landon Oswald; one great-grandchild on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January, 12, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Robert Jallas and Rev. Steve Arisman, celebrants. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N.
