

Francis “Neal” Ausmus, 74, of Springfield, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Neal was born July 5, 1929 in Peoria the son of Dewey and Anna Gathard Ausmus. He married Peggy Reavy September 16, 1950 in Springfield. Mr. Ausmus was employed for 26 years as a typesetter for Frye-Williamson retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council #364, Anchor Boat Club and Communication Workers Local 177. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul William Ausmus, February 5, 1966 and two brothers. He is survived by his wife: Peggy L. Ausmus of Springfield; three sons: Kevin (wife, Valerie) Ausmus of Springfield, John (wife, Kim) Ausmus of Sherman, Tim (wife, Julie) Ausmus of Sherman; four daughters: Marianne Ausmus of Springfield, Neala (husband, Roy Smogor) Ausmus of Springfield, Jennifer Ausmus of Springfield, Nanette (husband, Patrick) Grogan of Chatham; eight grandchildren; five step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; two sisters: Ella Mae Eater of Farmingdale, Rosemary (husband, Don) Richardson of Peoria and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Costa. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
