Francis J. "Joe" Owens

Joe was born on October 4, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Harry Grant and Honora “Noni” (Bowe) Owens. He married Joann Louise Glossop on September 9, 1956, in Springfield; she preceded him in death.

Joe was a 1948 graduate of Virden High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Joe then worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for nearly 40 years. He was a TRN Club life member and enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Tunica with his wife.

Joe was also preceded in death by his daughter, JoEllen “Jody” Roth; his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

Joe is survived by his son, James (wife, Kim) Owens of Springfield; son-in-law, Tom Roth of Pleasant Plains; two grandchildren, Ryan (wife, Holly) Owens of Columbia, MO, and Jessica (wife, Marisa) Roth of Riverton, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
