

Frank "Sonny" Price died Thursday, July 25, 2024. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Christine Price (née Schuh); daughters, Angela (Paul) Gallagher and Seann Elizabeth Price; grandson, Quinten Gallagher; brothers-in-law, Jerry Schuh and Thomas (Barbara) Schuh; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Oller; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Chicago on March 16, 1942, Frank spent his childhood in Springfield, IL, before moving to Jacksonville, IL. He attended Jacksonville High School and graduated with honors. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Frank returned to Springfield and worked for the State of Illinois Department of Corrections and other state organizations for 30 years. He retired in 2000.
Frank loved to travel with Christine and spend time with his family. He was an avid and oft-disgruntled angler and an avid and oft-disgruntled Chicago Bears fan.
The passion for civic engagement that Frank developed in his youth remained with him throughout his life. He believed open dialogue and peaceful activism are the paths to improving our communities for future generations.
Frank was a member of the Springfield Frontiers International Chapter and the American Legion Post 809 for over forty years. In the mid-1970s, he participated in efforts to better integrate the Springfield public school system and create more equitable educational opportunities for all children in District 186. During retirement, Frank enjoyed his work as a volunteer lobbyist for AARP.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Cornelius P. "Pappy" Price; sister, Susan Bradley; brother, Harry "Buddy" Price; and nephew, Phillip Bradley.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
