
Frank E. Sommer, 75, of Springfield, died at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage Health. Frank was born October 9, 1942 in Springfield, the son of William Martin and Mildred Frances Best Sommer. Frank proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He retired from District 186 where he was a custodian for 35 years. Frank loved spending time with his family, yard work and gardening, and was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles. He also enjoyed cooking and sharing it with family and friends. He was known for his "famous" spaghetti. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Lisa Marie Sommer and Dalene Uthmann; one sister, Reba Hughes; and one brother, William L. Sommer. He is survived by his son, Frank W. Sommer of Smyrna, TN; daughter, Dena Sommer of Smyrna, TN; four grandchildren, Zachary Chronister, James Gray, Kyle Uthmann, and Joseph Gray; one great-grandson, Connor Chronister; two brothers, James R. (Sharon) Sommer of Murfreesboro, TN and Joseph M. (Durinda) Sommer of Springfield; three sisters, Nancy (Charles) Karrick of Illiopolis, twin sister Fran Bretz of Springfield, and Linda (Donald) Farley of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
