

George T, Baker, Sr., 70, of Springfield, passed away at 11:58 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Villa East. George was born April 7, 1940 in Springfield, the son of Carl Arthur and Anna Fagan Baker. He married Margaret Sue O'Neill on August 19, 1961 in Springfield. She preceded him in death in April 2007. He attended Lanphier High School and retired from teamster Union 916 and was a former member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver #88, Dale Jarrett, vegetable gardening and watching westerns. He was also a Danbury Mint Classic car collector. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, George Thomas Baker Jr.; his brother, Carl Ivan Baker and his sister, Peggy Baker. He is survived by his two sons, Robert (Karen) Baker of Springfield and Carl (Evon) Baker of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Mary (Wayne) Knight of Danville, KY, Karen (John) Ryan and Jennie (Wes) Hayes, both of Springfield; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Pat Felber of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
