George Caufield, 80, of Springfield, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center. George was born February 13, 1922 the son of Thomas and Annabelle Johnson Caufield in Gillespie, IL. He was employed as a machine operator for Allis Chambers retiring in 1964 after 18 years of services. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a past member of the VFW in Virden. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: John and Michael and four brother: John, Walter, Tommy and James. He is survived by three sons: Robert Caufield of MO, George Caufield Jr. of Jacksonville, Frank (wife, Jeannie) Caufield of FL; one daughter: Carol Bliss of Peoria; two brothers: Barnie Caufield of Virden, Pat Caufield of WV; three sisters: Catherine Alney of Thayer, Bernice Sepesy of Virden, Clara Sepesy of Virden; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mr. Caufield's body was donated to science. Memorial services may be held at a later date.
