

George T. Kemp, 96, of Springfield, passed away on September 6, 2025 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 8, 1928 in Roodhouse, Illinois to William Austin Kemp and Mildren Christina Harp Kemp. George married Betty Kemp and she preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Patricia Smith and she preceded him in death on 2024.
Mr. Kemp is survived by three children: Troy (Becky) Kemp and Timothy Kemp both of Chatham and Krystal Siddens, five grandchildren: Jamie (Amanda Keaty) Kemp, Devin Kemp, Brock (Afton) Kemp, Brooke Burns and Cara Siddens, six great grandchildren, two sisters: Mary Lou Thomas and Carol Ann Peden and one brother David Kemp.
George was a US Air Force Veteran. Early in his career George worked for Richardson Manufacturing and then Meadow Gold Dairy. After that he took a position with Mojonnier Bros where he worked from 1966 - 1979. At that time, he started his own company which grew into Kemp Industries which at its peak employed 40 people. He retired from that business in 2000. During the time he owned Kemp Industries he also built Parkview Storage in Chatham. George was an avid gardener.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday September 10, 2025 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road with burial to follow at Chatham Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00am until the time of service Wednesday at Bisch West.
