

George Robert Lutz, 79, of Chatham, formerly of Paradise Island, FL, died at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Regency Care. George was born June 11, 1936 in Huntington, IN, the son of George H. and Eleanor Proctor Lutz. He married Judith Borth on August 14, 1996. George was a graduate of Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor's degree and attended Indiana University for post-graduate work. He retired in June 1991 from the Illinois Department of Transportation and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Knights of Columbus, and was active in AA achieving 52 year coin and helped many people obtain sobriety. George was an avid sports fan, loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed dancing, was a craftsman. He owned the Wood and Time Shop where he spent many hours refinishing antiques and clocks. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Judith Lutz of Springfield; three daughters, Jodi A. (husband, Richard) Lutz-Sanchez of Springfield, Kathleen Lutz of Chatham, and Jennifer Lutz of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Sam and Ryan Sanchez, Jason Gardner, Jake Ingold, Seven, Jett, and Hope Skaggs; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Steven Janoski celebrant. Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Mississinewa Cemetery near Wabash, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 675 E.
